The aims
and objects that Tihama targeted for achievement,
in the early eighties, have not changed.
At the outset, there was a great need for
published knowledge to enable the thinkers
and the men of letters, to impart their
ideas and wisdom and thereby participate
in national manpower development. There
was also a need to address issues that concerned
the society as a whole. Tihama was there
to provide the channel for the dissemination
of their knowledge. Lately, considerable
changes have occurred on the publishing
scene. Where there was a rush of abundance
before, the emphasis is now on a more selective
policy of presenting works of immediate
relevance.

Side by side with publishing, Tihama operates
a network of Bookstores and distribution
channels spread over most of the kingdom,
located mostly in commercial centers, universities
and airports. These stores offer books,
newspapers, magazines and periodicals, stationary
and school and office supplies in addition
to being a comprehensive source for anyone
interested in books and reading material
and catering to the needs of the specialized
as well as the general reader.

There are also video games and video films
for those interested in audio-visual information
and entertainment.
Tihama
bookstores have been organizing book-fairs
locally and have also participated in book-fairs
and related events abroad.
Tihama
Bookstores has various divisions dealing
with Tihama's own publications, books
from other local and foreign publishers,
foreign language books, video films and
video games.
